The short route from this entrance to Cornifer’s location is locked, and so players must travel south until they reach the city proper.Īfter reaching the bottom, the path going left will lead players towards the Nailsmith who can upgrade the Knight’s nail. It is likely that the first time that players enter the City of Tears will be when they travel to the outskirts to use the City Crest, restoring the bridge between the city and the Fungal Wastes. If players find Cornifer but don’t purchase a map before moving on to the next area, the NPC will leave behind a card to direct players back to Dirtmouth where they can buy his maps, alongside other markers, from Iselda. Cornifer’s location is signaled to players by his humming and, as they get closer to him, a literal paper trail leading to the mapmaker. He is a cartographer and can be found in each main area of Hallownest where players can buy a map from him. As players progress, they will uncover more areas of Hallownest that contain increasing levels of challenge. Rest up, then head down the bottom and into the area below.For a kingdom full of insects, Hollow Knight has a surprisingly large space for players to explore. Once inside, head right and hop up at the first opportunity to find the Teacher’s Archives Bench. Talk to Quirrel, then head left and destroy the wooden bracing to unlock a shortcut back to Queen’s Station, then head inside to begin your journey through the Teacher’s Archives. Proceed left, through the next area, then take the left exit and you’ll arrive at the Teacher’s Archives. Wait for an opening, then dash through, head down the shaft, and take the exit on the left side. You’ll emerge into a vertical shaft where small swarms of Lumaflies regularly coalesce to create electrical outbursts. Tons of tiny Uoma enemies are scattered throughout the area, so proceed carefully and avoid the explosive orange bubbles sitting on the floor, then hop across the platforms or swim through the acid and take the right side exit. Use the Shade Cloak to jet through it, then ascend the platforms to reach a small alcove at the top of the screen.īuy the map from Cornifer, then hop back down the platforms and take the exit on the right, into the next area. In this area, hop across the platforms and you’ll soon reach a vertical black beam which blocks the way forward. The next area has acid and a number of explosive Ooma enemies, so climb the shaft cautiously and take the top right exit. Hop all the way up the vertical shaft and take the top left exit into the next area. In this area, you’ll have to deal with explosive enemies, so use caution (especially if you have attacking companion Charms), and heal often. Now that we have the Shade Cloak, we can obtain the Fog Canyon map. Hop up the platforms and take the top left exit into Fog Canyon. From the Bench, head right and into the main Stagway area. Once you awaken, return to the King’s Station Stagway and take the Stag to Queen’s Station.
